Teething could definitely be the cause. I have three children, and they all suffered similar symptoms when they were teething.
Beyond that, it may be a combo of teething and something else. Have you changed formula/baby food recently? If you're breast feeding, have you eaten anything out of the norm lately? These all can affect baby's bm movements.
If baby doesn't seem lethargic or very ill-feeling, I would just give the doc a call again on Monday morning to check in and see if a follow-up is necessary.
However, if baby seems to be non-responsive or very lethargic, I wouldn't think twice about dropping in on an urgent care facility. You are the mom, so you know best. It will probably be nothing major, but if you're concerned then--by all means--put your mind at ease.
Finally, a little Motrin goes a long way in relieve fevers and budding tooth pain. Combine that with some Baby Orajel and junior should feel better.
Good luck. I've been there!

This can happen when a baby is teething but I would still watch the baby closely. The baby is getting dehydrated by now, and I would go to a different doctor. Try giving him baby tylenol to reduce the fever and look into what you are eating/feeding him to see if that may be causing a laxative effect. Give your baby only breastmilk and pedialite. Whenever my daughter went to the hospital for diarrhea and a fever they tried to make me wean her, but she really only wanted breastmilk which is the perfect food for babies anyway. Do you live in a flood area where the water has been recently contaminated by chance? Babies are much more susceptible to bacteria in tap water than we are. Really I would take the baby in ASAP to see if I could get it some medical attention. I think your doctor mistakenly diagnosed it as a teething symptom.

most commonly in babies is rotavirus. Make sure he's getting extra fluid to that which he is losing. Regular tylanol for children will help with the fever. You should go to a doctor if he doesn't get better soon or he becomes really tired and floppy or isn't feeding.

If you took him to the doctor, how long ago was that? I'd keep nursing but call the physician on call and get some advise. Diarrhea can be quite serious especially in one so young.

Does he seem ill? Is it a LOT of diarrhoea, or just that when he poos it's a bit runny instead of solid?
If he's acting unwell and is losing a lot of fluid, take him back to the doc.
If not, probably teething - that can give them a runny nappy for days/weeks on end. (A bit runny, not ghastly unwell type diarrhoea).
Make sure he keeps on having lots of fluids - lots of water as well as your milk if he'll drink it, and keep him cool.

It is to late to take him to the doctor. It is time to take your kid to the emergency room. If he become over dehydrated his organs can shut down. Give him some water, strip him down to his diaper and drive him to the ER. Having diarrehea for over 7 days is to long.
