What type of mouse do you have?
Anyways, I have a Logitech VX Revolution. For me, I just plug the dongle thing into the usb, and it works right away. Usually I stay away from wireless mice, but that mouse is a very very nice mouse.
I suggest just going and doing research on what you think would be the best wireless mouse that has the best reviews or whatnot.
newegg.com
usually when you go to a product there, they have a bunch of people who know what they are doing, giving reviews for certain products. The best products have high ratings, the worst ones have low ratings.
Go find the mice section, look up wireless mice, and check out the ones with the highest ratings, and see what the people have to say. If they are saying that they hooked it up to their computer witt no hassle at all, you have yourself a winner.

not at all there is a driver cd that comes with it, just pop it in and follow the prompts. There is a little connect button on the bottom of both the receiver and the mouse itself. you just have to push the button on the receiver, most models it will flash telling you it is searching for the mouse and then you just push the one on the mouse so the receiver can find it. Also most of them come with pretty detailed instructions.
Good Luck.

No. I'm using a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard right now, I dual boot Linux and Vista on this machine, both recognize the USB Bluetooth adapter and connect to the keyboard and mouse without any help from me.

No. They often just plug into the USB or PS/2 Mouse port and you're done.
