Okay, P&S is supposed to be a self-sustaining cyber world so please don't make me have to take this to another category. The volume on my laptop is very low, and I can't figure out how to turn it back up. The volume thingy in my tool bar is all the way up...where else do they hide volume controls on this thing. I'm running Windows XP. Help, please. :)

**puts on her glasses with the tape in the middle.... positions her pocket protector...... snorts and begins to type**

Go to your control panel.... then click on "Sounds, speech and Audio Devices." It will then have an arrow pointing to "adjust the system's volume." And there you go. :)

**pushes glasses back up on nose**

Is there anything else I can help you with? :)

Ok, JonBoy74!

Click Start, go to Control Panel and click that! The Control Panel window should open!

In the Control Panel window, double-click Sounds and Audio Devices! A Sounds and Audio Device Properties window should open!

Click the Volume tab if it's not already highlighted! Under Device Volume you should see a slider, a mute checkbox, and a Place volume icon in the taskbar checkbox! If the mute checkbox has a checkmark in it, click it to make it go away!

You should also see an Advanced button (in the Device Volume section, NOT the Speaker Settings section underneath it!) Click the Advanced button!

A Master Volume window should open! Near the top, click Options, then Properties! The Properties window should open!

In the Properties window, make sure that Adjust volume for Playback is selected! Under Show the following volume controls:, all the checkboxes should have checkmarks (except for maybe Aux, Microphone, and Phone Line)! Check any of those empty checkboxes, click OK and the window closes, and you're back to the Master Volume menu!

In the Master Volume window, make sure the Mute boxes under Master Volume, Wave, SW Synth, and CD Audio don't have check marks! If they do, click them to make the check marks go away! Then slide the vertical volume sliders in each of these up to the top! Leave the small horizontal Balance sliders alone, and close the window!

Back in the Sounds and Audio Devices Properties window, click OK! Close the Control Panel!

You're done! If you still don't have sound, e-mail me your laptop make and model and we'll go from there!

Turn it down low on System Control, but high on the little wheel thingy on the side.
Then turn the System Volume up.
