Magecrafts, magicks, and occultism are the same things. 22-year practitioner here.
Whatever you conjure up is nothing but energy. What you do with it, your intent, is what matters. The gun isn't bad, the person behind the trigger is.
You are equating magick with demons et al, so that's what you're coming up with. Your view on life matters. Your psi is yelling. Stop yelling. Sit back, relax, look inward, and find who you are. Face your shadows, know them, and then get rid of them. Use gifts to help others, not to help yourself. When you stop thinking about yourself, you will discover those negatives are gone.

"Ceremonial magick" technically is "western occultism." Creating magical spectacles (creating balls of energy or trying to communicate or command spirits of the dead) is a very small part of it. If you just focus on that, you miss the boat. Magick often incorporates elements from Medieval and Renaissance era magic and mysticism--which was intensely spiritual . You have to read up on Giordano Bruno, Albert Magnus, Robert Fludd, Pico della Mirandola--and there's a bunch of other folks. You have to be literate and have some background in philosophy to understand them, though. They all kind of thought they were scientists, besides. Also included in ceremonial magick is Tarot lore (which is an 18th century French invention although Tarot cards themselves date back to the 13th century), angel and demon lore (ie The Enochian mysteries based on a book that did make it into the official Bible called the Book of Enoch--it goes through all the mythology about hierarchies of angels and demons and some Renaissance occulitsts have elaborted on this and have written tracts about summoning things) philosophical alchemy (which is a little different from certain forms of laboratory alchemy), Kabala (there as Jewish and occult Christian/western forms of Kabala), and nowadays syncretic ideas from Tantra concepts are sometimes thrown in as well.
In ceremonial magic, you are taught how to have a relationship with elements, elementals, angels, daemons, adepti, and how to modify your consciousness through interaction with these beings and a connection with the universe to have a more in synth, expanded consciousness and empowerment in a sense. Some magicians view the otherworld beings they meditate on as independent entities but I think that most experts in magecraft (that I've read) think they are part of one's own consciousness (as do I) they form part of a so-called Inner Plane. It's too complicated to go into here. I am being mentored in magianism through a school of esoteric Christianity (by a witch who is also a mage in this tradition!) I suggest you read up on the Order of the Golden Dawn, the Ars Solaris, Ars Magica and links related to them to get a better idea of magecraft and what you want to do about it.

Based on your interest, I don't think you want to take a path. You don't like the dark and you're not interested in the light. So stay in the gray where you are anyway. (At least until you get tired of that.)

If you want to learn about the subject without having to sort through a lot of anonymous answers by strangers, about whom you know nothing, including whether they know anything, there's a way to learn.
The reading list below can act as a source for you. Most of the titles can be found in your local library. If they don't have them they can borrow them from another library.

You have to pick the path yourself and be responsible for what you do. Just be sure because if you invoke demons, you will be beholding to them and will have to pay back what they require.
