I am in my third year of college (still a sophomore, went part time in the beginning) and am feeling very anxious and worried. I am studing to be a special ed. teacher, and I really am determined but I am letting other people effect my progress. I feel like I should be in a career with kids at 27, not going back to school to begin a teaching career. I don't want this to ruin the progress I have already made. Any advice and motivaitonal words would be apprieciated.

Worry, anxiety, and feeling overwhelmed are a part of life, no matter what you do in life, those things will come along. Just remember that this stress will lead you to a career, while other stresses will not. As a post-secondary student you have the ability to set your own standards, this is called self-empowerment...so don't let others place the empowerment for you, especially if you have children. Learning is a life-time thing, so don't feel you are too slow, or too fast; keep in mind that much of the outside stress you are experiencing also effects the people you intend on helping as a Special Ed. Teacher; don't stress, rather seek to understand, and this is what will make you successful. You can do it!
P.S. Remember to take time off to have fun too, and time off alone to relax and recouperate.

If you don't get into your career or have kids by the time your 27 whats the big deal? What is wrong with 28 or even 30? You are stressing out over these exact time tables as if everything will be ruined if you don't meet them. It is ok if things don't fall in place at the time you prefered them to because THEY WILL HAPPEN EVENTUALLY. The right time will present itself once you've finished school, found a job, and met that special someone. It'll happen and their is no reason to get anxious over it.

Anxiety is one of the job requirements for a teacher, so you're in good company. Twenty seven isn't old. I went back for my ed degree at 25 and started teaching at 26, and I was the youngest teacher at my school (still am, in fact). I know how you feel, though, because I went through some of it myself. Best advice: chill out, enjoy yourself as much as you can, and stick with your dream. Education desperately needs people like you.
