Most Jews today are from either the tribe of Judah, Benjamin, or Levi. However, for most people except for Levites and Cohanim (descendants of Aaron) they do not know what specific tribe they are from though statistically speaking, it is likely Judah (hence the name Jew).

As an aside, there are some who say that with the "Ten lost Tribes" of Israel, they got absorbed into the general body of the Jewish people. There was also a Hasidic Rabbi who had a tradition that he was descended from Issachar.

Another aside: A Benjaminite was called a Jew in the Bible. That would be Mordechai in the Book of Esther.

Another aside: There are people who claim they are descended from other tribes, e.g. Menashe, but they have been isolated from the Jewish people so according to Jewish law, they cannot be considered Jewish in today's time without conversion. I met a guy from these people who converted to Judaism and now lives in Israel.

The Jews of today are from the tribe of Judah. There are a few mixtures fromthe other tribes. It is in the Bible. The other tribes mostly left, and the tribe of Judah was conquered twice by the Babylonians. So there is some mixed blood for sure, but that doesnt really matter. Jews are from the tribe of Judah.

Congrads to BMCR. I've worked with DNA researchers on the Y Chromosome of the Cohanim & strangely those with Surnames Kane, Cohen & several others can trace their DNA back to a common ancestor 3000 yrs ago. Strangely a number of Palistinians can too.
Edit:
I suspect a number of Jews were converted to Islam during the early Jihads of the 7th & 8th Centuries. Therefore Israelis are much closer to Palistinians than they realize.

Only people with the last name of Levi or Cohen (many spelling variations).

Of course, back more then a few generations - let alone back to biblical times - who really knows? Also, not too many people convert to Judaism, but some have, so again, who really knows with certainty?
