Something affordable with good mileage and is fuel efficient (gas prices these days). Also a car that she will like and won't be embarrased to be seen in. Preferably one of the newer models. Just list as many as you can think of! Thanks!

A Scion tC. It's a teen car fave to some good mileage and only 16k new and semi-luxurious (well to me, since I drive a '94 car) iPod compatible and whatnot. it is a good starting car and you have the choice between a auto and manual transmission

any car will keep her from being embarrassed- go inexpensive... because the first two cars are more trial and error than anything else (usually blown engine... but boyfriend driving crashes happen too. If you think she won't let her boyfriend drive it around...think again)... and something substantial... you want the car AND the kid to survive the low impact bumps and bangs that go into practice.... worry about a new car after college.
I'd go with a $1000.00 something like a dodge or chrysler. a Volvo would be the safest...
Any kid of mine who didn't want a nice safe practice car could always get back on their bicycle. Just food for thought.

1. Low Horsepower, with not much acceleration
2. Small, that there is no feeling of false security
Give her ten choices, there are 60 cars in that categorie on the market. Don't forget, a persons brain and judgement is not fully developed until 26. I crashed 30 cars until my dad cut me of and since that day, I didn't had another accident.

why spend a ton of money to see it get wrecked against a tree or something. Let your teen learn on a $500 clunker. That way when it is wrecked, you're not out much.
Besides, it gave my Son and I some time together working on it getting it road worthy. It was quality time, and he also learned something about the car.

That's what my wife & I did.
I myself bought my own cars. (all of them including my first)
My parents did not buy any of them. So, for my kids to get their first cars given to them, They had the opportunity to get a job so they could go buy what they wanted.....

A good car for a teenager is whatever the kid can afford with the money she earns working over the summer, after school, and on weekends.

Ask her what cars look good toe her. Then look at the safety records and fuel economy of all of them. The ones that meet your approval should be selected. Then go rent each of them for a few days and both of you drive them (you will have to be with her when she drives). Then buy the one she and you agree meets the most criteria you both have set out.
