"It is a tradition as old as history: Athletes from distant lands gather to test their mettle before throngs of cheering fans. Indeed, the inaugural Olympic games—held in the summer of 776 B.C. at the sanctuary of Zeus in Olympia—are widely believed to be the first precisely dated events in the annals of ancient Greece."

If these fires are an attack against Greece, this was the way to show to the rest of the world that there will be no Greece any more!
But THEY ARE WRONG !!! Whoever they are :
We shall find the way to rebuild Greece from ashes and stand with our heads high, looking the world streight in the eyes!
Greeks are tough when attacked ! And united !
This is the highest possible price we pay for being friends with everybody
edit:
My middle finger to the person that is giving thumbs down!
And I know who you are: stop playing big patriot and friend, you are educated person and it is shame to behave like this.
Have respect at least for the people from allover the Globe, that are sharing our pain and love for Greece. Thank you.

Yes being a native myself it brings me to tears every time I watch the Greek news lately... Unfortunately compile with careless farmers and herders attempting to clear fields and the usual carelessness of smokers and campers it is suspected that political agendas of oppossing political parties are attempting to create chaos this election years... over 145 different fires so far and 63 casualties... The Pirmeminister has issued a stated of emergency and has give the military the duty of overseeing and conducting the efforts of getting these fires under control... hopefully this will put an end to this terrible and unfortunate incident My prayers are with my country and it's people and hope all will be well... please pray for them too Ancient Olympia is saved only surrounding trees were burned

I might sound emotional, but this is how I feel...
I am mourning. For the people who lost their lives. For the nature that vanished into ashes. For people who are now homeless and desperate. For our Ancient heritage which was so well protected from imaginary enemies during the Olympic Games show, but not as well protected from this disaster.
I feel like mourning for losing something so very mine.
In due time, I will let my anger take its place. Because I really feel it is about time that we must be really really angry and do something about it. About it all. ..Finally...

People are dying, our history is vanishing, whole areas of Greece are being destroyed.... What do our politicians expect after that???? We should abstain from the forthcoming elections.
