A couple of things come to mind. First it could be that the piston rings are worn and when it gets hot(warmed up) the compression is low so it will not start. Second could be that the carburetor needs to be rebuilt. These are diaphragm carburetors and they need to be serviced every few years or more. Check the compression by slowly pulling the starter cord out. There should be spots during the pull that are definitely harder or more firm. If the rope pulls out smoothly with little or no resistance, the rings may be bad. If it seems to have compression, rebuild the carburetor. It is a fairly easy job and the kit is about $10-15. Also make sure you are using the right gas/oil mix.

Make sure that when it stops and you try to restart it that you're not going through the same steps as when you try to cold start it. When you cold start it, you choke it and hold the the throttle in while starting it. If it has already been running and it dies out (other than if it runs out of gas) or you shut it off and then want to restart it, do not choke it and do not give it any throttle. It should start right up that way.

How long does it run before shutting down? If its several minutes then be sure you're adding the right amount of oil to the gas. If a minute or so - check the choke. Choke on to start, off to run. As far as cooling down - it should run all day.

Starts cold with the choke on. Do you have the choke off when it ios hot? You should. If you do, It may be a choke mecanism problem that doesn't shut off the choke when you push it in. If this is the case it should run a little rough when hot.

These are horrible for air cleaners. Take air cleaner off soak it in brake cleaner then blow it dry , both sides with compressed air. You need high pressure. after check and clean plug and carb. You didn't say what make. If its a cheapy throw it out and get an echo, easier to maintain.

Sounds like it needs to cool down. Time to take it in for servicing, OR buy a new one. They are always on sale the end of summer (August).
