A 3 in 1 oil is better than wd 40, but oils over a period of time will attract dust and dirt, You may have to repeat this from time to time. A liquid or powder graphite is much better. It is a little messy, but works a lot better. A little bottle will last a lifetime. It is great on locks. You'll never have trouble with one again.

A light house hold oil like 3 in 1 or Sewing machine oil with just a drop that the top of the hinge inside between the leaves. WD-40 works in some cases, but it is hard to control and spatters on the woodwork.

3in1 oil. Pull up the hinge pins about 1/4" and place a couple drops on the pin. Put the pin back down and the squeaking will stop. Less messy than spraying WD-40 all over the hinge.

3-n-1 oil, not wd-40 that is a penatrating lubricant. It'll stop the squeak for a little while, but you need something oil based.

WD40 is not the long term answer. It is great at getting the initial problem solved. It dissolves any stickiness and grime very well but for long term squeak prevention, it is too light and evaporates quickly. Use a heavier, stickyer oil for long term peace.

WD-40 will do the trick but it will evaporate eventually.graphite will work the longest
