the light just stays on. Also my battery light stays on too.

How many miles do you get on your last gallon of gas?

Is it true if I let my car run empty on gas and can add problems to the engine? Just wondering because I never fill my car up, its to expensive and I always wait to the last drop to get gas :)

Do you?

Battery light usually means bad alternator. BUT if it's been on for a long time the alternator is charging though it may still have a bad diode.

Brake light, first check the brake fluid, lots of cars now have level sensors and topping off the fluid IF LOW will fix that.

Some cars will turn on different dash light WITH the battery light to ensure getting your attention I assume. So it may be because the batt. light is on.

The bottom of your gas tank contains a lot of unwanted garbage, dirt, sand, water, just junk.
When you run the car low on gas thats all that is left for the fuel pump to "suck up". Always running around on E is a sure way to have to replace the pump, or some other fuel system component before it's time is due.

You're going to burn the gas anyway-why not fill up and not have to do it again for a week instead of putting $2.00 in it everyday. Gas weighs about 8 lbs./gallon. A full tank doesn't weigh enough to hurt your fuel economy at a level you could actually notice.

Fill up today $30.00 or fuel pump 6 months(may last forever but you are not helping it out) $400.00

Newer vehicles have fuel pumps submerged in the fuel tank & rely on the fuel to keep them cool. Overheated fuel pumps will fail & can be very expensive. Some vehicles they are well over $500 + labor. If you don't want to fill your car completely I would recommend using you method in reverse. Fill the tank completely, then once it reaches ½ a tank, then refill.

The battery light usually indicates the alternator is not charging.

The brake light indicates you are operating only on the front or rear brakes. This is a safety issue & should be addressed ASAP.

'to answer your first question if the lights have been on for a long time now there's probably nothing wrong. The battery would have died by now. but still you should have it checked. As far as the fuel tank it's only bad if you don't change your fuel filter by running it empty all the time your sucking up all the crap that's in the tank. If you continue to run with just a little gas just make sure you replace the fuel filter often.

First, your brake light means you have a brake problem - they are failing. Your battery light also spells trouble, you are losing your electrical supply, Burning or trying to burn that last gallon in the gas tank is not a good idea. That last gallon holds all the water & crud that develops over time.

Your car has problems that you need to address before you hurt someone

battery light means your alternator is going out. which is causing the brake light to come on, atleast it did on my car. i replaced it and the brake light, battery light, and coolant light all shut off. if its been on a long time and it hasn't died then I don't know. Yeah its bad to run empty on gas. The fuel pump works harder and picks up junk in the tank. which is not good. the fuel pump will die earlier and your car is going to be run on fuel with junk in it.

Yes it is bad for you to run your gas low because it picks up trash out of your tank and clog your lifters. brake light might be because the emergency brake is pushed down just a little. Try pushing your emergency brake down then release them. Or it even could mean your brakes may need replacing. But it could be some sensor is going bad.

Well I never let my gas run under a 1/4 tank because there is alot of junk that can build up on the skim of your gas that is bad for the engine.. but if you always run it 'till its empty.. perhaps the sludge skim never develops! lol.

OK,
I changed;
1. Battery
2. Alternator
3. Timing Belt
4. Water Pump
5. Pulley(s)
6. Tensioner
cleaned EGR and throttle body, added gas (didn't fill it up)
the Battery light, Brake Light, and Gas light are all lit up. I disconnected the battery leads, clamped together to discharge the diodes, fully charged battery,
7. New Charger Relay
STILL THE LIGHTS STAY ON. If it idles really low on start up they don't come on....but they do later.
Ideas?????
Thanks!
