When she said that she would never let go ... he made her promise that she would never stop trying to live, no matter how hopeless. She held on to hope that rescue would come, and she held on to the love that Jack gave to her. She never let go of either of these things all her life.

not a stupid question but i asked this question each time i see the movie she made me cry and feel sad why she let her lover die while she could help him she could let him sit on that piece of wood with her she could share each breath with him
but the film was made to be a sad romantic end they make us believe that promise can be lost in the vast unknown destiny of the poor love sorry but those films drove me crazy each time i saw a sad movie my feelings are confused

He's was dead, you espect her to live while having dead Jack attach to her. She is with him mentally.
If you also ask, then why didn't she died with with him. Jack ask Rose to promise him that she will live and die an old lady, warm in her bed.

Okay I won't be mean like everyone else. She meant metaphorically: as in she would never let go of him in her heart. She didn't mean she would hold on to his dead body forever.

he made her promise not to let go as in dont give up on life and find a way to survive this...he didn't mean to hold on to his dead body. lol
