Every woman has a slightly different reason for having an elective abortion.
They might feel that they can't afford it
The father is not in her life
They are young and aren't ready for the responsibility or want to go to college
There is something severely medically wrong with the baby
Sadly, some people just use it as a form of birth control.

If you are talking about elected abortions, link below will tell you what the various options are and some detailed information. What kind of abortion is done depends on the stage of pregnancy the woman is in at the time. D&C is the same procedure that is done on women who have had a miscarriage or missed miscarriage.

If you are looking for reasons, go to your state health depts website. You will usually find a section on that which includes both the number performed in your state as well as the reasons indicated by the woman choosing abortion.

Sure, you can abort a baby on purpose. The dr. can give you a pill in the early weeks.
But I think you were talking about spontaneous abortion, where the baby is aborted by the mom's body while she's trying to bring the baby to term, right?
There's lots of reasons, honey. Trauma to the mom--a car wreck or a fall. Sometimes there's something wrong with the baby, and the body aborts in order to keep a severely disabled child from being born.
Sometimes mom's hormones aren't right. That happened twice to my s-i-l. After that, she went to a specialist who checked her hormones, gave her pills to fix it, and she had two healthy girls.
My baby aborted for no apparent reason at 17 weeks. I just went to my regular ob appt, and they couldn't find a heartbeat, so they did a sonogram, and his heartbeat just wasn't there. Of course, I was devastated. I still cry about that baby, and this was 15 years ago.
There's lots of reasons a baby can abort and sometimes, unless they do an autopsy on the baby, we never know what went wrong. Very, very sad.
Take care!

Mine are 17 and 21 now.

There are two kinds of "abortion." Spontaneous abortion, otherwise known as a miscarriage or natural pregnancy loss. Then there is an elective abortion, a medical or chemical procedure a woman chooses to terminate a pregnancy.

I agree with Sadie & Heather. Unfortunatly, some people don't want to consider the other options. I was 18 when my daughter was born, graduated H.S. and gee, I even went to college. Never got a dime of c-sup from her dad (she was his when it was convenient for him and not his when he was out cheating). Where there's a will, there's a way. And no, I wasn't a welfare mom. Abortion was and NEVER be an option for me.
