Hi My 2001 Camry stopped picking up speed from a standstill, and also blows out a lot of (BLUE) smoke when initialy started. A NIGHTMARE TO MERGE ON TO HIGHWAY TRAFFIC (NOt enough acceleration)

I GOT A TUNEUP (replaced air filter engine plugs.. etc) AND HAD THE TIME BELT CHANGED, BUT NO DIFFERENCE

MANY PEOPLE HAVE TOLD ME THAT IT IS DUE TO ENGINE SLUDGE IN THE ENGINE!!! BUT WHEN I SAY I PUT OIL AT REULAR INTERVAL THEY GET CONFUSED...

NOW MY QUESTION::::

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS IF YOU HAVE ENGINE SLUDGE, AND DOES IT CAUSE VERY SLOW ACCELERATION???
HOW DOES ONE EITER REMOVE OR CLEAN ENGINE SLUDGE??? (ANY GOOD PRODUCTS!!!)

THANKS 4 YOUR REPLIES AND HAVE A GREAT SUNDAY !!

Blue smoke is oil burning in the motor.....the motor need to be rebuilt if you are going to keep it! You might use Lucas oil or oil treatment in your oil, that will probably help a lot!

Well unfortunately you can count on it meaning you'll have to get your wallet ready for a workout. Blue smoke could indicate a few different things I guess.

However it is my own experiences that tell me what is happening is your motor oil is leaking past your piston rings and getting into the engine cylinder and mixing with your fuel and ultimately burning along with the gas. That leakage is getting compressed with the gasoline in the combustion chamber and the burned oil makes the blue smoke.

Your car probably also doesn't have as much power as it used to and is probably running rather rough too. If it isn't yet it wont be long and it will evetually cause the oil to break down loseing its viscocity and not properly lubricateing the pistons.

Because what is also happening is some of the gas is leaking past those rings too in the opposite direction and mixing with the oil in your crankcase and thinning it out. When this happens the engine will overheat from excessive friction and it will seize.

They used to do ring and valve jobs to fix the problem. But that is "old school" and we now live in a disposable society and most every shop around will recommend a newly rebuilt engine. With shop rates being as much as $125 an hour, the rebuilt motor is much more cost effective. I'm sorry to be the messenger of the bad news.

When an engine burns lots of oil at start up it usually means that the return holes for the oil are blocked on top of the cylinder head, directly underneath the valve cover. After sitting and while driving the oil pools to the point that it runs down the valve guides into the combustion chamber and also fouls the plugs quickly.Someone should remove the valve cover and clear the drains.Don't attempt to clean any more sludge than necessary because chunks will break loose and fall in to the oil pan where they can clog the oil pump screen and blow the motor.

Man you're posting this a lot.

I answered this 2 times under my account and now on the wifes.

Sludge can and will(if bad enough) cause blue smoke.

If you've changed the oil every 3000 miles or so, sludge is unlikely. If you wait till over 6000 miles or till the oil light comes on then sludge is likely.

Toyota campaign for de-sludging. CALL the dealer Monday morning . The only sure way to see if it's sludged up is to pull a/the valve cover off and look.

Define sludge. Is there white yogurt under the oil filler cap or is the oil in the pan white? Sludge under the filler cap is due to improper ventilation.

►Check the hose from the air cleaner to the engine is not obstructed.

►Check the PCV valve is operating correctly.

If all OK then disconnect the exhaust before the catalytic converted & take for a drive. If performance increases then it's time for a new cat(s).
