A brazillian guy perfected an air powered motorcycle a few years back, though as one of the others postees said, they (air engines) have been around, mainly in the form of locomotives for many years.

I and a colleague at work once even designed and built an air motor during a slack period, using an old Honda 50 motor with a cyl head incorporating a piston operated poppet valve for the inlet (piston comes close to top of stroke, lifts valve off seat, air enters cylinder, piston starts down on the power stroke and the valve closes) and an exhaust port cut into the cylinder wall ala 2 stroke.

It worked amazingly well down to about 30 rpm and was quite economical with the air supply (35 mins using 110ltrs of air, starting pressure 150psi).

But no I wouldn't buy one, the technology is too new and it still requires an electric or petrol compressor.

Pneumatic vehicles have been around for over 100 years.

A lot have been used in chemical works etc.

The air tank is simply a way of storing the energy. The problem is what happens in an accident, the sudden loss of pressure could result in a serious explosion.

This is not environmentaly friendly as the energy has to come from somewhere. People go on about electric cars being environmentaly friendly, forgetting about the polution at the power plant. What is driving the compressor?

Yes I like the idea but only if the price is the same as a petrol car and after the bugs have been eliminated. I do not mean after some politician puts the price of a car up by taxation .

If they made a proper car yes I would. This one is slow, ugly, noisy and has a range of just 200km.
