Here in Haifa, every schoolchild will have to be able to speak Arabic--I wonder what would happen if their spoken Arabic were as good as their spoken Hebrew! In my opinion, a bi-national state is a STEPPING STONE to what will eventually become a UNICULTURAL STATE, and it won't be Hebrew that they'll be speaking, as happened in Spain where the Jews spoke Arabic or Ladino, but where Hebrew was only used for prayers. The language of business and commerce will by necessity be Arabic, and Israel will lose its sovereignty and become a part of the Muslim World. Do you think I am wrong? AND IT IS NOT AS THOUGH THE SHCOOLCHILDREN WILL HAVE A CHOICE OF LANGUAGE TO LEARN--when will they STOP POLITICIZING EDUCATION FOR THEIR INTERESTS?

The point of the State of Israel is to be a Jewish homeland, a place where Jews around the world can live in dignity, with basic rights. It doesn't matter how many Arabs are around them; and there are so many Palestinians who want to live in their own independent state, that it's more likely there will be two states, not two nations in one state. If you look at it this way, you see that Arab Israelis are a minority in Israel, and it's as unlikely as Spanish becoming the national language of the USA that Arabic would be the national language of Israel.

To DamnSinner: It's not religion that makes war. "If everyone followed the tenets of their religion, Earth would be Utopia" (read that somewhere). Politics, economics, and cultural principles are the real causes of war. Israel was made to give a home to survivors of the Holocaust and to ensure that if the civilized world turned on Jews again, they would be able to defend themselves. The history of the conflict between the Palestinians and the Israelis that came up after 1948 is a long, detailed, multi-tiered topic, with a lot of different truths mingled in with exaggerations and party-line lies. But in the end, it has very little to do with religion.

Would it really be such a bad think if all Israelis were fluent in both Arabic and Hebrew?

After all they are the official languages.

As for only speaking Arabic, I doubt that is going to happen.

I think it's so sad when religions have to cause wars and political uproar when the whole purpose of religion is to appreciate our Maker.
It just doesn't make any sense.
