Burning a book would be like killing a friend.
It's not a chapter in my life I want to see.

I'm ashamed to say that yes I have, it was a copy of one to the Dawson's Creek stories that has been bought from a charity shop.
I was in Berlin earlier on this year and went to the German History Museum, there was footage of the Nazi book burnings. It was probably because I was so tired an things by the time I came to that display but I felt quite sickened and tearful when I saw this film. I didn't realise something like that would cause such extreme emotion, but hi ho it did.

The only time I would do so is when a beloved book has become too decrepit to read, missing pages etc and then I would give them a Viking send off rather than bin them. It can be done respectfully. Otherwise, never. My horror of the Bonfire of the Vanities and those bonfires of the Nazis and the Communists means even a bad book is still a book and therefore worthy of existing

No, but I was brought up to respect the written word. All my old books go to charity shops or are given away to family and friends. I would feel like I was doing a terrible thing burning a book or for that matter any artistic expression whether I personally liked it or not.

hmm .. I believe I did burn some school books years ago .. and it did also give me closure. When I was burning them I was expressing ultimately my regard for what I used those books to study. I realised then that I respect books. So now I try to avoid the ones full of b&llsh*t

I think book burning is a despicable thing to do...by burning the book you take away the authors right to share his story, and other peoples right to read it. If you don't want a book, just give it away. I think that burning a book is one of the worst things somebody could do. Even if the subject matter or author is...unsavory... it still doesn't matter. Quite frankly, I find your reason pathetic..

Burning books is tantamount to sacrilege and especially one that has been signed by the author however much of a cad he was. If you had have done him in at least you would have got money for the book someday!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By and large I'd say that book burning is a sacreligious act associated with Nazis, Muslim fundamentalists, Southern States evangelists and other scary people who hope that they can eliminate free thought by destroying its expression.
In your case, however, it was probably a reasonable reaction.
