Flashing engine light means possable harm to your cat converter. That is why when you slowed down the light stopped flashing. If you drive and destroy the cat converter it will cost more money and ceramic pieces of the cat converter can get blown back into the engine wearing out the pistons and Cly walls. nly drive slowly and easy to get it repaired. Sounds like a engine misfire notice any roughness?

A warning light that comes on if the computerized engine control system detects an engine performance or emissions problem. Also called the "malfunction indicator lamp" (MIL). To determine the nature of the problem, the computer system must be accessed to read a fault code .

Meanwhile check the water in the Radiator.I would drive it as little as possible until I took it in.

Twenty year mechanic here....offical name for the light is a MIL light...and no you should not drive any more than you have to. Flashing is very bad......on all the time is not good but better than flashing. May be minor....may be major....Take it to the dealer for sure....unless you know a Master Mechanic. Diagnostics can be tricky unless your properly trained.

check that the gas cap is screwed on tight....a loose cap will make the check engine light come on....if it's not that, check belts and hoses and fluid levels.... past that, it's for the techies to find....
