I uninstalled Norton and it's updater, afterward I did have internet connection. I then installed Mcafee Total Protection and now I can't connect to internet. How do I disable Mcafee long enough to check if thats the problem? right clicking on it's icon doesn't do the trick, neither does going into task manager :( Also, what other steps do I need to take to fix this?
If this helps, the pc is an Inspiron notebook , Windows XP. Mcafee installed without a problem, and am hoping the security settings may be the culprit, but I don't know much about that stuff.

First Download the Norton Removal Tool to your desktop http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039 . Double click to run the tool this will clean your computer of norton. Afterward do a search for file name with norton if any comes up delete them.
If that doesn't work you may want to uninstall McAfee run the MCPR.EXE tool from http://ts.mcafeehelp.com/faq3.asp?docid=420229. Then as you did with norton do a search for any mcafee files. If any comes up delete it then reinstall your software. Make sure windows firewall is off.

The problem is more than likely Norton.
If you didn't go to Norton's site and run there Installer and if you didn't remove all the Norton Registry files, you will find that you still have several elements of Norton on your computer.
Next you will also find that Norton Products and McAfee products do not play well together, as a matter of fact they don't even like being around one and other.
It has been my experience that you will need some help purging all of Norton off your system.
