(Or at least, most of the time?)
My mother was telling that yesterday.
But that sounds a bit ridiculous to me.
I know that many people look for quiet places to honeymoon, and so islands are often regarded ideal places.
But I doubt that people who live on the mainland have only islands in mind to visit.
After all, there are many famous places in the world, and just some few islands are included in such places.
Also, islands represent a very tiny percentage of the land on Earth, so if everybody on the mainland wanted to go to islands whenever they travelled, then I assume islands would probably 'submerge'.
Also there are other quiet places to go, such as the countryside, or the mountains, etc...
So, now tell me your sincere views about this.

I'm interested in hearing them, since yesterday I ended up having a fight with two family members of mine because of this.
I was convinced I was being quite candid, but my brother said: "You don't have to offend other people" and "And you are capable of making similar statements as that to people you are less intimate with, such as Brian's brother-in-law".
Did I say anything remotely wrong?
I don't think so

Hi Bird, I agree with you, there is nothing related between living in the mainland with preferring going to an island for holidays. More than where you live, it has to do with personal taste. Some people love the ocean, others to hike, others to go to museums in a big city. I can go on and on....
I have a friend that lives in Berlin, for vacations he goes to Sweden instead than to the south. I asked him why he would do such a thing instead of going to the beach, he responded that life was so expensive and it was so cold in Scandinavia, that when he returned to Berlin he felt living in paradise...still another perspective ;-)

I love New Mexico...... I live here in the East mountain area of Albuquerque. Some of it is very flat, and some mountainous. There is 10 acres for sale right now for 99,000. It has 4 little cabins on it without water, electricity,or septic. You would have to get composting toilets and have a water hauled up there, and perhaps get a generator. It is very private and primitive, but very serene. You would have to get a 4wheel drive for bad weather. But, it is exceptionally beautiful.

The mainland is a huge mass of land.
People there may go to lakes and rivers, but have never seen
an ocean.
Thank goodness they don't all visit at the same time.
But it's a trip to see someone enjoying the beach for the first time.
Priceless experience!!
No need to explain nor defend yourself to family members.
Every opionion is just just that.......an opinion.

Sounds like someone was bring overly touchy!Of course.an island getaway sounds like a good dea&often,it is,if you can afford it.But I personally like the shore,or the mountians,(provided there is electricity!)
I wouldn't worry over much about what your brother said,as I think it's much ado about nothing

I tend to travel and experience different places. Islands are great, but there is so much more out there to do and see.

in a way your mother is right....
because main land people are facinated by water and beaches ....because they are hardly able to see the beaches
but at a same time it depend upon choices... and so many other factors... if you go goa it cost you hell and if you at lonawala it would be cheaper.. so it is depend on lots of choices
but yes beaches do attract people
