We want to be assured that there is in fact more to the picture than what we already see. This used to be easy, back in the earlier days of humanity. The far corners of the world were still uncharted and mysterious, and it was easy for us to gaze out into that abyss and imagine what amazing creatures must lurk there. Now, however, Science has filled the blank spaces of the map and explained away everything that our ancestors were in awe of. whether you come from a religious or scientific perspective, the known is that people and animals exist on one planet of one galaxy.
If by random chance it can happen, then with the expanse of the universe, it is likely to have happened else where. most of the galaxies are shaped similarly, most of the planets are shaped similarly, the weights of elements remains somewhat constant....it stands to reason.
From a religious perspective, If GOD created one life form in one location and GOD is omnipresent...It stands to reason he has done this elsewhere or previously or will do it again.
