20 or 30 years yet and the energy needed to extract 1 petroleum gallon will cost more than 1 petroleum gallon. It will be the beginning of the end of the petroleum age. Not too far: the most of us will see that day! Other energy sources are now still completely insufficient to replace petroleum and our technical devices are mostly not ready for conversion. What will it happen to the people living on earth? To global market and production based on the low cost of energy and transports? To the indispensable technological supports to human life? Will it be a sort of apocalypse with wars and massacres for the last petroleum drops? Before the petroleum use only 1 billion people lived on earth, now we are 6 billions: what will it happen to the exceeding 5 billions?

to Mike W: It's more funny (or tragic, I don't now) how some conservators have the faith that nothing is going to happen and don't want to see. It's better to continue to sleep!

Petroleum extraction, although done relatively cheaply, is still a science that needs better technology to extract it more efficiently.

Nuclear power has its benefits, but most people don't want this type of energy, besides, how do you power a road going vehicle with type of fuel? It will be possible in the future to have mini nuclear power plants that will be able to power vehicles but do we all want nuclear bombs travelling up and down our highways?

25 years ago a few of the large American Institutions were looking into Hydrogen power. This is a never ending power source and will not be tapped into until the oil runs out. Technology exists at the moment to produce it and when it becomes mainstream there will be a clamour to get the money out of people who will need it; you and I!

I am currently in the process of developing an engine that will run on multiple fuels and has only one main moving part. Until I can find money to continue with the project, I am stuck with no more than paper ideas and models.

This power plant will revolutionise the way vehicles are run and operated and will give far better fuel economy than what is presently available. This will not be good news for the oil producers who thrive on artificially inflated prices and make vast profits from their enterprises.

The time will come when I will unveil my idea to world and thus, save us all!

I thank you.

The U.S. is making efforts to develop petroleum-free energy. Great strides have been made to capture wind power in spite of Ted Kennedy's attempts to stop it. And nuclear technology is an energy option too. But the Democrats always block that as well. We have vast oil reserves of our own that would saturate the market to bring down fuel prices, but the Left won't permit that either.

Its a conspiracy, 10 years ago they were saying 10 to 20 years of oil left, now they are saying 20 to 30 years of oil left. I dont know where to go with this, but i guess we need to consider the envionmental effects and move towards greener options, i hink we will have a long time before the oil runs out, search peak oil production on the net, it is commonly used as a description of when we will be at the iggest possible supply of oil, after which we will begin to slowly run out, aparently we havent reached peak yet although it was predicted to be in the 1990s at one time.
We will be stuffed without it anyway, lookaroud you home, all the plastic you see is a by product of the oil industry, whart are we going to replace it with, natural fibres/rubber, what about car parts, and our workplaces full of components derived from oil.....
what are we gonna do....panic now!!!!!!!!

Funny...how liberals fear mankind still is trying to solve problems today with a mindset and knowledge base of the 1700's. It shows in their questions and comments. What also shows is their propensity for believing in some form of Armageddon.

Forget the doom and gloom. There is more oil in the ground, that is yet to be tapped, than anyone can measure. Under the Arctic ice cap, there are huge deposits of oil. We have untapped oil in Alaska, oil in the Gulf of Mexico, oil off of the west coast, methane under the east coast that has not be measured yet, oil sands in Canada that are being developed...and the granddaddy of all: oil shale in Wyoming and Utah where the deposits are so vast, one estimate says it could supply all of the needs in the US for 500 years. Then there is coal and natural gas; both can be converted into fuel for autos.
What you should be worrying about are Democrats and enviro-wienies who have stopped all development of new resources.

Plenty of cheap clean Nuclear Energy.

*EDIT*
You power vehicles electrically with energy made from a Nuclear Power plant. You know those electric vehicles.

No, I don't even think about this issue. Some company will invent some thing to replace gasoline, but it isn't my problem
