What a wanky thing to say, is he trying to say"how awful, but don't forget about us" The death of Rhys will be absolutely crushing his parents, i hope they do not hear this.

I'm not at all surprised at this comment, I was in fact expecting it. The fact that someone else's tragic grief is now front page news and that the Jones' have the sympathy of the nation must really be irking them. I knew they would find some way to muscle in on the story. It is deplorable that he can make such a comparison, surely by suggesting that they will not have closure suggests he has some reason to think that they either will not find Maddy, or what happened to her. What happened to all this never giving up hope they were banging on about. Fair enough to say they were shocked at the news and that they offered their sympathies to the Jones's, but he should have left it at that. Typical of him to try and get further sympathy. Rhys was 11, a perfectly fine age to walk home with his friends from football practice, no one could say that his parents were in any way negligent. The Jones' did not leave him home alone with two younger siblings, they have lost their son, as you say, shot by a bullet and gone in an instant, through no doing of their own. I doubt any of us can imagine the grief and senselessness they must be feeling right now. This situation has nothing to do with him.

I know for me personally I would rather know if my child is dead rather then know nothing but to go on tv and say it about a family who just tragically lost their child. A family that played no part in their sons death. He is a child that was old enough to play out in the yard without his parents supervising constantly. That is so cold for him to say that. How would he like it if the Jones went on tv and said this is not fair, we never left our children home alone while we went out and yet we still lost our child. Since day 1 Gerry has shown to care for Gerry only.
Edit after reading other answers....Toit hope you read this...I think the question was more regarding the fact that he got on tv and said it. Would you get on tv and say that if your child was missing and another child just died. Would you dare go up to a family or go on tv and say you are in a better position then me because your child is dead and mine is missing? They very well may not be in a better position because I guess there is still that slight chance Madeleine could be alive. I doubt it but the case is not solved so always that slight chance.

He's a thoroughly nasty piece of work. There is no comparison between these situations. The parents of Rhys are obviously thoroughly decent, good people who I am sure would never have left their young child unattended in a foreign country. McCann has absolutely no right to seek publicity by commenting on the violent tragedy the Jones family have suffered.

That comment is sickening beyond belief. That disgusting excuse for a human being has a chronic case of foot-in-mouth disease. There is no comparison between the two cases. "We don't have closure" can be translated as "Rhys is dead, the story's over, now get Madeline (Gerry's usual incorrect spelling) back on the front pages so we can head for £1.1m".
Gerry is getting everything he deserves. He is not worthy of one moment of sympathy. He is simply a foul, selfish, worthless pig.
Edit: Gerry is also no doubt upset that Everton FC showed an appeal on their big screen to find Rhys' killer. How dare they supercede his appeal!

It's a terrible tragedy for both families. Why should one party consider the other in a better or worse position. What could be worse than losing a child. I personally feel the McCann's neglected to take care of their child and they have that to live with for the rest of their lives. The McCanns may never have closure - they have the guilt.

Gerry's right dave s & you know it.
At least he has the honesty to admit. As heart-rending as what happened to Rhys Jones is, not knowing what has happened or is happening to your child is worse.
There is no doubt about it.
As much as one grieves for poor little Rhys, at least we know for sure he is not suffering somewhere, loney & cold, scared & in pain. With missing children, one never knows...and that is the worst part of the pain.
Look, you won't fall into a faint if you agree with Gerry...
don't disgree with the man just for the sake of catering to your followers...they'll survive another 30minutes without giving you a star...

I can honestly say, I really don't think I have hated anyone so much before. Gerry is a delusional, self centered, control freak. The man is sick and needs medication help - to dismiss someone elses grief in this way is really offensive but then, we have come to expect that from him and his mute wife. Gerry is beginning to slip up now, every time I hear him speak his voice seem to have got higher with a slight panic tone to it. He always knew people were turning but now the are voicing their opinion directly to his face - he cannot bully or silence people anymore. I see many journalists are now challenging him - watch him turn on them. I heard he walked out of an interview in Spain yesterday because he was asked a question he didn't approve of. The McCann fund has received £1million - Gerry has spent £70,000 of that fund. Given that it was set up to help find Maddie then I think this speaks for itself.

Nothing he says surprises me anymore. He lost me when he said what they did was in the bounds of good parenting...wouldn't like to see his version of bad parenting!
Toietmoi, no offence, but Gerry McCann is actually the one who said a dead child is easier to deal with, in not so many words of course, couldn't have that in his script could he? Isn't that what this post is about?
