To my knowledge, wearing golden jewelry (and silken clothes) is forbidden (haram) for the males among the followers, but they are allowed (halal) for the females, because it can corrupt them by making them resemble women.

The most important belief of a Muslim is to believe in One God alone. These are minor issues, but thanks for asking...
The reason is simply because it is encouraged for everyone to dress modestly (men and women) and if your garments or clothing show arrogance or pride, then it's bad for ones self. Gold and silk is not allowed simply because it can cause arrogance in a man and jewelry and silk are generally more feminine - so a man is not supposed to be like a woman and vice versa.
Of course, if they are well off and wish to dress nicely, there is nothing wrong with that so long as their demeanor doesn't put anyone else down and nor do they think of themselves as better than anyone else.
And God knows best. :)

I didn't know that, but may I guess? Gold is a decoration, and manly men who are not women don't decorate themselves. Decorations are for women.
