The audio cable connects to a socket which has 4 pins on the M/B.----the DVD ROM drive also has a 4 pin socket at the back

Actually if your computer is recent vintage (last 5 years or so) probably even older than that, You don't need the cable. If you mark it as a digital sound output in the control panel Under System>Hardware> device manager you don't need a cable.
Actually this will probably happen automatically when the device is detected by the OS. Computers have actually not used the 4 pin cable in a good while. Most people think they need it but their computer has already marked the device as digital so the cable isn't in use anyway.
The system will transfer the sound as digital data through the drive cable to the sound card. Thats one of the things DMA is used for.
You only need the cable if you want to do an inferior analog sound connection to the sound card. I have two drives in my rig both DVD and they both work fine as a digital device. If you really want one go to any computer shop where they build computer's and they probably have spares. Or try an electronics store.
I am assuming you have XP or later or even Linux.

You don't need the audio cable - cd/dvd drives will simply read the digital data off the disc and convert it to an analog signal on the motherboard.

YES it should play fine, IF however you do not get it playing audio (most players read teh digital signals now, not the audio direct to aound chips) then simply buy a CD Audio cable from a computer store and install it.

the foremost concentration on is the Processor, and pictures card. maximum desktops/ laptops have 4GB ram that's appropriate. The processor is quite susceptible. i'd propose a quad center chip. in spite of the undeniable fact that, if value is a controversy i'd somewhat get a minimum of an i3 Processor with extra MB Cache. The pictures card isnt great the two. that's a decrease type pictures adapter. you're turning out to be the skill to play L4D2 and Portal 2 on very low settings. My pc has an ati 5470 512mb card and can play those video games on medium-intense settings. i will max out All COD video games. Mass result a million,2,3 would be performed on medium. My Processor is a affordable i3 processor. Ati image enjoying cards would be pointed out by the 1st 2 numbers. the 1st variety i think of is basically how new that's i.e. new technologies. the 2nd variety is whats significant. a extra physically powerful 2nd variety is a extra constructive pictures card in many situations. in spite of the undeniable fact that, attempt to by a card which starts off with 5 or greater. those beginning with 4 are in many situations crap. in case you opt to understand in case you could play a interest basically seek it in google. e.g. "Portal 2 equipment standards".

DVD-ROM usually don't have a build-in audio connector. To use the audio output, you have to connect it to your mainboard's connector. As usual you need a media player to play it such as Windows Media Player, Media Player Classic, VLC Media Player, Real Player, etc...

What is the sense of buying a toy (or additional parts) if you don't know how to play? The cord you need is right under your nose, undoubtedly though it is probably too small.
