I have stayed at all 4
Taking everything into consideration, I would rate your 4 this way for the weekend of(12/8/07)
#1 - MGM
#2 - Luxor($190)
#3 - Stratosphere($80)
#4 - Excalibur($126)
Excalibur = During December they go out of their way to cater to families. Not exactly a fight atmosphere.
If the price is close I would stay at MGM, since that's where the fight is anyway.
Don't get me wrong I really like the Luxor too, it's just that MGM is a little nicer and would be more convenient.
BTW - The Stratosphere is not "dumpy" it's a nice 3 star hotel.
Hooters >$119

Would be a lot more convenient for you than the Stratosphere
>After the fight if you would exit at the Grand Garden Arena rather than walk all the way back through the hotel & casino, which is one very long walk, Hooters would be right across the street.
I'm surprised the rates are not much higher, that weekend is also the final weekend of NFR.

Stratosphere is nice to visit, they have the best thrill rides in Vegas, but I would not stay there -- it is way far up at the top of the strip, not easily accessible to everything else.
Excalibur and Luxor are a bit older, and feel that way. The King Arthur theme of Excalibur make it a bit too family-friendly for my taste, while I think Luxor is a little bit grungy.
Of the 4, I would say MGM is the nicest, has the best restaurants. MGM and Excalibur both have a more central location.
Did you consider the Flamingo? It is a bit older, too, but decent place, usually affordable and great location.

First off, forget about the Stratosphere, its at the top end of the Strip way away from everything. I have stayed at Excalibur and rate it nice but kinda like a Best Western. You get what you pay for. I have never stayed at Luxor but its a good hotel and in a good location for the fight and other things. I have stayed at the MGM a couple times and unfortunately both times I got one of their "West Wing rooms". Stay away from those as the room is small although nicely decorated. If you are by yourself, and don't spend much time in the room its OK, but otherwise I would request another location in the hotel.
Another good choice would be the Monte Carlo. Its in a good location, across from the MGM and generally has good prices.

The luxor, excalibur, and mgm grand are all very close to each other and in a good location at the beginning of the strip. I love the luxor but I have never stayed at the mgm or excalibur. The monorail stops at mgm which is a good alternative to taking a taxi because las vegas blvd is always packed. The stratosphere is at the end of the strip and it is kind of dumpy. I wouldn't recommend staying there.

Of those 4, I would choose Luxor, based solely on reputation. By personal experience, I would advise you to stay away from Excalibur. Stratosphere is too far away from anything, and MGM Grand is too expensive for my tastes, although I've heard good things about it.
You also may want to try Hooters, which is across the street from MGM Grand.

I know kinda off the question. But was reading the answers about the strat. Not the best hotel but it is very nice for the price and if you like to gamble the casino is not very busy so you have your choice at the tables. Been there a few times and if you got the money stay at the MGM. Have fun and win my money back. By the way the strat is like the highest payback on the strip. So stop there and spend some money. And MAYWEATHER rocks!!!!!

MGM is probably the best on you list. Strat is probably the worst on the your list and the other two are similar.
But, you should enjoy the MGM and the fight will probably be at Mandalay Bay so it is a quick walk across the street to the fight.

properly, all the lodges you have chosen are particularly on the brink of eachother and are on the south end of the strip, possibly for this reason you chosen them. MGM Grand is unquestionably one of my prominent lodges, I definitely love that hotel. The rooms have been wonderful and mushy, and maximum heavily (to me) the rooms did not scent like smoke. The pool is impressive, the eating places are great. I actual have under no circumstances truly seen any celebrities there with the exception of Kurt Thomas and that i assuming he grew to become into in Vegas because of the fact he grew to become into traded the day previously :) that's the the final stop on the monorail on the south end and without put off connects you to something of the strip. ny ny has an superb on line casino. i like each and every thing with regard to the floor floor. I actual have heard the rooms tend to be smaller at this hotel. Mandalay Bay is impressive. between the Southern maximum strip lodges with mini monorail connecting to Luxor and Excalibur. The hotel in its entirety is impressive. good pool. Luxor provides me vertigo, i will probable under no circumstances stay there. however the golf equipment are good. LAX is primary for movie star sitings. you could as properly see Carrot good on any given day! : ) My %.: MGM grand!
