Your best bet would be to take your coin to a local coin dealer. They will be able to tell you so much more by evaluation the condition of the coin. They will also know the amount minted and what it is going for in today's market.

Try posting pictures on this website (there are many coin experts here that can help you evaluate it - there also may be people willing to buy if you are trying to sell):

Well if you had listed the dates of them, someone may have helped you. There are no web sites that are of any real help. Most are trying to sell you coins and will not pay anywhere near that price to you. It looks like the decimal coinage cent has no rare dates but a few in special made ones in proof are worth a few dollars. The Pennies from 1940 through 1950 only have value in the dollars department, if they are in high grade of extra fine and above. The 1954 falls also in this category, all others have a value of about .10-.25 U.S. Most Small denomination coinage is collected by the people living where the coins were minted. Few Americans collect small denomination coinage of other countries, just like the collector in the UK may like our old silver dollars, but not our cents.Hope I have helped some here.

At todays rate, 1 $NZ is worth .717 $US, so you are not going to retire on it !
