I have a HP Pavillion a1310n with a 200 gb hard drive that has Xp Media Edition on it and running the hard drive from two wires that I have no clue of to turn on the hard drive. Ok I have a 20 gb hard drive that has Vista ultimate on it and when I hook it up to the IDE cables and unplug the unknown cables to the 200 gb hard drive, the 20 gb hard drive works. Basically what im tryin to say is how do I hook the 2 up without getting the blue error screen.

Hi. There are jumpers on the back that are labeled MA (Master), SL ( Slave), and one CS (Cable Select). One needs to be set to MA and one to SL. This should work.

Sounds like your 200GB drive is a SATA (Serial ATA) drive - they use a small funny-looking connector usually attached to a small red cable (the other cable is the SATA power cable)

I take it that the computer is booting up with both drives connected, but going to a windows blue screen? If that's the case it could be problems with the way each drive is being read. Check in the BIOS settings (boot the machine up and look for a message saying press ... for setup, then press that key) for the boot order - the order in which the computer will look for operating systems on your hard drive, and make sure these are in the order you want them.

If that doesn't work it could be some sort of hardware conflict, you're best off getting someone suitably skilled to look at it.
