I have a 55 gal. mixed cichlid tank/aquarium. I went outta town for a month and had a friend do the feeding. When i came back everything in the tank including the glass and filters had a brown film on it, looks like rust but is very gooey. none of the fish died though I did a 50% water change and cleaned the filters. What happened? Do i have to clean all the decorations to get it off?

That's algae, and you got it from not cleaning the tank for a whole month I guess

I would just get a magnet for the glass, or use a papertowel to clean it from the inside

It's very easy to get off, just swipe over it

As long it's not white fluffy stuff you don't have to worry about it.

you can wash of the decorations, but you don't have to

Hope that helps
good luck
