Umm, I'm not so sure about this but:

Given the quadratic equation:

Ax^2+Bx+C [where A, B, and C are the coefficients]

Then:

The sum of the roots is equal to -B/A

and

the product of the roots eqauls C/A.

The general form of a quadratic equation is:
y = ax^2+bx+c

The coefficents are a and b. The coefficients and the constant term c will determine the solution as Popo B said
