Amsterdam (Schiphol)
And not just because it is the mayor airport and from most countries you get direct flights.
It has a good railway connections, the train station is in the main hall of the airport.
When coming in the size of the airport is not that important, but when you leave from there again, Schiphol has enough to keep you busy from an early check-in till actual boarding. With even a museum in the 'duty-free' shopping area.
The other airports in the Netherlands are mainly regional and are only better to use if you need to be in that area of the Netherlands. Non of them have a rail connection, and while buses are mostly available, this is less convenient.
You can also only reach the regional airports by using connections as non of them have direct flights to the USA, and only limited scheduled flights in Europe.

Okay, real quick info about Paris; it is a good idea to buy a large book of metro tickets (they come in books of ten or just one at a time) to make transportation easy there. The tickets will last about an hour each the instant you put them through the machines (but they're supposed to be one-way only so that's a little cheat!). You'll find them for the cheapest price at the airport. Now then, the trains are a pretty good idea, but as far as cheap goes there is always biking. But you have to be quick on your toes and have the ENTIRE trip planned out. One error and you could wind up spending a lot more cash than intended. (By the way, make sure to have a debt card!!! A ton of places just take cash.) Make sure you know the best and cheapest hotels to stay at, the right food to take, and that you're up for the challenge. But in the end, if you do it right, though its much more effort you get more bang for your buck. Biking is dangerous and risky, but a rewarding experience. If you're really serious about it a good idea would be to brush up a bit on different languages and at least carry a translator or book handy to get you out of tough spots. It's journeys like these where you will be able to see the path less traveled and do a bit of exploring, so once again cash is a good plan Imagine if you find a perfect local restaurant that only takes cash! It happens all the time. Also, always have a backup plan, stick close to your friends and make sure someone at home knows where you are, just in case the improbable becomes probable. Guard your money jealously, use it frugally, and make sure not to look American!

Schiphol near Amsterdam, which is also the country's main international airport. Schiphol is well connected by air and rail to the rest of the Netherlands and Europe and the airport has a lot of facilities which are useful for visitors.

Fly into Amsterdam. They have trains from the airport to any city in NL you want to visit. it's only about 15 minutes to Amsterdam centraal on the train and costs about 3 euros.
Everybody should visit Amsterdam in their life.
You can go to the Rijksmuseum, the VanGogh museum, the museum of torture, cannabis museum, sex museum,
and just walk around and enjoy the canals, the markets, and the coffeehouses.
You might also want to see a smaller Dutch town like Leiden or Haarlem or Delft or Maastricht. They're all nice, clean and interesting, but no longer cheap with our weak dollar.
GEt a book, Let's Go Europe and read about Netherlands.
Also, it's a short trip to Ghent and Brugge (Bruges) Belgium, two of the prettiest towns in Europe.
Whenever you go, take a rain jacket, an umbrella, and waterproof walking shoes. (Not rubber boots, but some kind of sneakers have Gore-Tex lining that keep your feet dry)
Typical Dutch weather is 50 degrees and light rain.

I agree. Schipol is the best airport to fly to. A lot of budget airlines fly to Eindhoven but you have to pay for the bus and train to get to Amsterdam (over 20 euro per trip) and it's quite faraway so you'll be supertired by the time you arrive!

depends where you're flying from, and where you have to be. Ryanair flies to Weeze, which is perhaps 10min. away from the Netherlands and really cheap (it's called: Weeze - Dusseldorf Airport, situated in Germany).
Other cheap ones are Eindhoven, Maastricht-Aachen (both situated in the south of the Netherlands), Rotterdam (West of the NL). The largest one is "Schiphol" (near Amsterdam), but 9 out of 10 times it is more expensive to fly from there (the facilities are better though!).
Hope it helped!
