"Revenge is not a road, it is a forest, and like a forest, it can become easy to loose your way"
--Hattori Hanzo, Kill Bill vol.1
It's real easy for people who have not been wronged to get all preachy and hoity-toity about it. So people who can not put it in context should not be validated
What is the law, if not institutionalized revenge? What is the difference between revenge and justice?
Christians fnacy themselves as being morally superior, then why did Anne Coulter say that we should invade Muslim countries and slaughter them, then convert them? Why does the religious right support the Iraq War?
On the other hand, does the pacifistic left feel that it would have been morally superior for the allies to simply surrender to the Nazi Germans and the Imperial Japanese?
The answer to your question, like anything that is potentially addicting, is that doseage should be rational and controlled, with a clear cut purpose and goal, and a withdraw plan after the goal has been accomplished.

Revenges is another moral question. Like spanking a child, abortion, or gays. It really depends on how you were growing up and your moral standards. Revenges happens legally all the time. It is called the death penalty. That is ok by moral standards in america. Where in other countries you can have revenge in unmoral ways just for getting kicked in the groin. So it is a question of morals. Can't be awnsered with such an ambiguous question as the title says, but we must look deeper as to what causes the revenge and is that type of revenge ok? Can it be justified? How can it be carried out in a lawful manner? Then the most improtant question in my book is. If you reveresed the roles of you and the one you are taking revenge on would you like the same done to you?

I love Aken's answer. A cold dish, indeed.
As someone who has been "gaslighted" more than once, I'd add that it's best to extract yourself from evil person's circles... say to yourself over and over again, "Living well is the best revenge." Outrage will fade over time while you pursue healthier relationships and pastimes.
If you are lucky, someday you'll hear of some misfortune or tragedy hitting the evil one. It is inevitable because poison attracts poison. Grave dancing is optional, best done around midnight with Champagne toasts following.
I am still waiting to put on my dancing shoes, but in the meantime I do not obsess.

Revenge is a dish best served cold , my dear. Anyway, if you are taking revenge on someone who is doing wrong, I suppose that you presume that it is justified and that you're in the right.
Very well, if you are planning on a revenge, make sure that the innocent ones will not be harmed by it. Or if harming someone is inevitable, make sure that they also benefit from the revenge.

getting revenge doesn't make people stop, you have no gaurantees that it will at least, so it would be irresponsible for you to engage in evil even for a righteous end. It goes without saying that deserving does not justify revenge, everybody deserves thier revenge, wouldn't be revenge otherwise, would just be a beatin if they didn't deserve it.

I think Plato was of the opinion that you should always try improve your life and the life of others, and that would be the best thing, since everyone will become better off. So the best thing to do is sit that person, down, ask him questions why he is doing wrong and does he think doing wrong will help him, or if should in fact do right.

Vengeance is a never-ending cycle. If it is right to strike back, then the other is justified in striking you. It has to stop somewhere so why not be the one to show the true courage: to not seek revenge.
If everyone got "what they deserved" as you put it, nobody deserves to live. We've all done wrong at some point in our life, most of us repeatedly, and if it always needed to be repaid, we'd be hopeless.
“He who seeks vengeance must dig two graves: one for his enemy and one for himself”

Revenge never ends. You have to decide for yourself: Is it worth it? Revenge doesn't make them stop because then they feel they have to get you back and the vicious circle continues until somebody finally kills the other one. and sometimes even then, it doesn't stop, because then the families have to pay each other back. This is how feuds get started.
So decide here & now: IS THIS WORTH DYING FOR?

previous lifes? bahaha undesirable issues ensue because of the fact undesirable human beings ensue. there is not something mystical or religious approximately it. Plus if reincarnation existed, which it doesnt', if somebody have been to be reincarnated does not they be made right into a slug or some variety of snake instead of purely someone in a sturdy usa with a sprint undesirable success?
