I use Times New Roman 11pt. 10pt for many fonts is too small & straining to the eyes. I wouldn't go bigger than 12pt. You might have to adjust this rule since some fonts come in large or small sizes. For example 12pt. Verdana is sort of huge so I wouldn't use it.
Serif fonts (Times New Roman, Georgia, etc.) are generally easier to read than sans serif (Arial, Verdana, etc) on paper. For an online resume I would use a serif font or if you want sans serif Trebuchet, Verdana, or Tahoma. Arial I think is a matter of personal taste. I get bored just thinking of it & IMHO it is not as readable as the alternatives.

12 size for Times New Roman, Arial, Trebuchet MS
and 10 size for Tahoma.
I recommend Trebuchet MS or tahoma, considering the modernity of your Resume..

I recommend 12 font size in Arial Font.
even more critical than the font size and font style, is to have it proofread by several people so that mistakes don't get your resume tossed before they discover who you are (i.e. you misspelled professional in your question:)
Good luck!

12 point for a serif face. You might want to go a little higher for a sans serif ... it depends on how it was designed.
