Everytime i come to Cairo i experience nervous breakdown from the traffic...i won't talk about people's behaviour, how are they driving, the zero tolerance, etc..
But i had this thought last week i was in Cairo (the thought hit me because of the job transfer to Cairo that i may accept, i m originally from Cairo but i left 7 years ago)
so here are the facts;
1. The streets' capacity are nearly the same. (im not sure but i guess the capacity to actual cars running are 300% more or something, correct me if i wrong)
2. The cars are increasing in nos. (IN)
3. The are no cars get (OUT), except the really crashed devastated ones.
4. The government officials seem have no proposed solution out of this situation, nor they seem even thinking about it..

I m afraid one day will come (and it will) all people would leave home with their cars and can never make it back home, i mean total paralysis! What do you think!?

This is true, but let's see the whole picture,
Cairo is one of the biggest cities in the world, so it is normal that we have high traffic rate,
But, are we trying to solve traffic problems? are we trying to solve any problems? you are asking about the government plan. Do you think that out respective government has plans for anything? (except for ministers vacations in Marina and trips to Europe) .. They don't have plans for economy, education even food.. Do you think that the minister who goes with 30 cars and bikes to guard him in empty blocked street is suffering? may be they forgot that there is traffic problem..
Did you see the president when he said "People are really overestimating traffic problems,2 days ago I went from my Home in Heliopolis to Haram in 20 minutes" !!
In Dubai, due to the unbelievable growth rate the city achieved in the last five years ,, as one of the world fastest growing cities (without intelligent government) They started to suffer from traffic. what was the response?
Plans for the next 10 years with cost of 4 billion dollars.. includes 40km underground, new ring roads, creek buses and bigger buses for public transportation's, bridges and tunnels.. all of this is connected with very accurate time frames..
in Egypt .. We will solve all the problems, IN SHAA ALLAH :)

Yah. He did in interview with Arabiya news channel. I laughed a lot..

I perfectly agree. I hate it when we go somewhere that is only 15 minutes away, take 45 minutes to get there, and spend another 20 minutes looking for a parking space.

However, things in Alex are not really great either. I was there for a few days, and finding a place to park near the hotel where we stayed in was very difficult. The side streets are veeeeeeeeeeeery narrow. The car which was brand new got scraped all along the side by some idiot driving too close in the narrow street :(

You are right on witrh that train of thought Kalooka. The traffic seems to be increasing everytime I go there.
Even after five years I still cross the streets with at least one Cairean on the oncoming traffic side for "protection", at least it feels that way. I guess that I do this as I presume that they will get hit first and somehow I will have time to jump clear LOL.
Driving in Cairo should really be classed as an exterme sport like base jumping and paragliding.
I am still on my illusive hunt for the one taxi with no dents,
guess I just really like to believe it exists, but I have never seen it.
Its become a source of modern Egyptian mythology .

I agree with you totally.

Since I came back to Egypt last october I failed to adapt, or should I say re-adapt to the traffic system in Cairo.

Every time I drive I just loose my nerves and fall into those road-rage fits which will get me either killed or beaten up pretty bad one of those days.

I decided to use the car in the absolute minimun necessities. I tend to use the public transport system, now, which is not as bad as I thought it would be after all. You know I use those Air conditioned buses (CTA) they are ok and reliable.

I just get a good book and forget about the world outside and let the Bus do all the hard work.

By the way, its very good for the figure as well. I lost something like 10 kg in 10 months (running after buses is not such a bad sport after all)...

Cheers ;-)

Hahaha Kalooka, you made me laugh.
you talk about Cairo traffic because visit Cairo for one week.
Well Kalooka I will tell my journey every day from my home to my work , I take the work bus from Mohandseen to 6th of October, firstly according to Mohandseen traffic OMG it's very crowd specially at summer because we have lot of Arab tourists, after passing Mohandseen Al7amd le Allah, we go to "Me7war" road & here is the big taragedy there is no organization at all,the road has problems, drivers think the drive at Dream Park not street, speed is unlimted there & no one for checking. Big cars & lorries are beside individual small cars though they have their own road & there is no one to control this mass, we almost see everyday at least one accident in this road.
So what I think is we need big change in everything, we need change in our behavioure in driving, we change in traffic system & we need to start in this change right now .

you r completely right
Cairo people r so bad in drivin moreover we'll not talk abt thier behaviour as u said

U know? am from Alex and i want u to imagine how Alex be when Cairo ppl come in summer
All what u're talkin abt happens here
Thats why most of Alex ppl hate summer

And abt the government officials....2ol 3ala el denia ya Ra7man ya Ra7eem..!!

We r all afraid too that we can never make it back home coz of all what u said
but i have a solution: everyone sells his/her car and use government transportaions...sounds silly ha?!

In Portsaid ppl did this long time ago and they're using bicycles now

God Bless Us All

Asalam alaikum,....I couldnt agree more. Ive been to Cairo 11 times, and am scheduled to go back in Oct. But honestly I dread it. The smog, the traffic, the fact that it takes Allll day to accomplish anything u might need to do out of your area.....

By the way ive been meaning to ask you, is that your baby in your avatar? I want a picture :)

There does not be sufficient butter pecan ice cream to circulate around and many human beings would get disregarded. Oh, I basically study something of your question. See Chevy Chase interior the movie not something yet complication. It wasn't a collection situation yet he grew to become into able to do stuff like that because of the fact of exposure to poisonous waste.humorous movie.
