Try the Library of Congress website. (loc.gov) They have hundreds of photographic image taken during the Great Depression. (as well as from many other eras of our nation's history)

I think of gaunt, lined faces, people standing in bread lines, tent cities, abandoned farms with dust and sand building up along the sides of weathered buildings.

coit tower in san francisco is full of them. the beach chalet has more. worth a visit.
