Maybe the guy thinks your referring to the mercury switch kicking in the thermostat, it will spark slightly, if you didn't explain yourself thoroughly.
Have him take his time and really look at it or, get someone else. It would take quite a bit at this voltage to "burn" any wires, it could be anything for 12 to 24 volts only but, you never know.

you say spark well they do spark when you move it they all do... if you have the cover off you can see why is a little bubble in there that makes contract it sparks but what you are talking about the fan is something else.... think you might need to call some one

Its time for a new thermostat, you can buy one at Lowes or Home Depot for around $10 to $20 and it will be all digital and it will make the furnace/AC work like its supposed to, but you need to do it ASAP before you do permanent damage to your furnace/AC.

Whoever told you not to worry doesn't know what they are talking about. It sounds like you may need a new thermostat. Go to www.hvac-for-beginners.com there is a page about thermostats.

sounds like your wires melted so you need to put in a new thermostat control - you can get one at almost any store and the directions are extremely easy so you can more than likely change it yourself
