Earthworms, snails, slugs, salamandes, tadpoles, small fish/minnows. Don't try insects as they will starve before eating crickets/grasshoppers/beetles etc. The small fish/minnows are OK, but don't feed them an all fish diet as this can cause a severe vitamin deficiency in the snake.

Baby Garter snakes eat earthworms. They suck them up like spaghetti!! When they get a bit bigger try putting small feeder fish, like Rosy Reds, in the water dish.

We have a garter snake and we feed it goldfish. Our local small petstore sells them 10 for a $1. Not sure what newborn ones eat though. Call a pet store and they might be able to help you.

to not point out they each and every choose distinctive climates. Garters choose temperate with some humidity, beardies choose very heat with a one hundred° basking spot and low humidity, which does not be great for a garter.
