I was washing a quilt and a few cloths, not enough to overload it, it turned on and ran for a while then quit, I went to take the cloths out and felt they were still damp and saw that the dial was stopped just before the rinse cycle, I pulled the nob out to turn it back on and nothing, I tried starting the cycle over again and nothing, the plug is all the way in and I checked the circut breaker and it is fine, what could be wrong with the washer?

Like I said I started the cycle over again and nothing, it does'nt even start, I made sure to put it on the start of the cycle and not on the off part, I also have my cordless phone plugged into the outlet the washer is plugged into and it is still working.

Mine did that and it was something akin to a transmission in a car. The part of it that makes it change from one cycle to another, like a car changing from one gear to another. It might be more economical to get a new or used one if that is the problem, because it won't be a cheap fix...at least, mine wasn't. Until I got it fixed, however, I was able to get through a load of clothes by manually advancing the dial from one phase to another.

I want to impress upon you that I am NOT an appliance repairman, and all I know of is what I have had experience with. Good luck with your washer.

check for a reset botton usually on an outlet in the wall somwhere. it might have pulled to much electrisity and poped it off. the botton should be small and between the two plugs on the outlet.

also, they usually figur out plastic is not as good as metal after it breaks :-D you may need to call the repair man. it would be a broken, and may simply be a broken piece, depending on the washer, that will let the load drain, but not spin or do anything else. see if it will fill up with water, if not, check for a reset botton.

there is a spot on the washer ( after you raise the lid look at that washer) that has a little indented button that gets pushed down when you close the lid and it makes the machine run ( its a safetly button for when its spinning.... look and make sure nothing is holding it in up position ( best way to see if this is the cause is to take something like a pencil and push down on it ( after you try to turn machine on ) and see if it runs then

on the inside of the lid there is a list of things to check when they stop working.
the belt could have broken also or the dial went out

You didnt offer enough information, like the brand, but go to http://appliancequickfix.com/ and they can probably tell you very easily what your problem is. If its a Maytag, its probably the door switch.
