In this ay and age, I still encounter many men who think that women only work because they have to, because they can't get a man. Or that feminism is for ugly women (Limbaugh).
Why can't they understand that some women are fulfilled by intellectual achievement and problem solving and participating in public life, just like guys are. Why do they think that marrying, cooking cleaning and having kids is enough for us if it is not enough for them? You'd never see a guy sacrificing his career to stay home and look after the kids. Why do they think we should do something that they would do themselves?
do they still think that using your brain and intellectual inquiry are inherently masculine?
How can women be happy if they don't like intellectual pursuits?

The guy who mentioned history - I have stuied history. But just because something is traditional, doesn't mean it has to stay that way or is right and meant to be.

Slavery was a long tradition too. Do you still think white men should own slaves today?

Very few jobs actually require ovaries or a penis - including childcare and housework.

I'm not saying no one should be a stay at home mom - I just want to know why men get so angry when we exercise choices.

Most guys like that are either old fashioned (older men), mamas' boys or chauvinist pigs.

I am happy to stay at home (and I do, I am a stay at home mom), however I will never give up my right to vote. I don't care what men think or say or how they act. This is a country of freedom for both men and women, and I will fight to the end to keep it that way. Why would I want to give up my right to have my voice heard?

Because there are too many lazy women out there just looking for a meal ticket. Or they can't stand to be alone and will do anything to get a man to stay with them. These women are ruining it for the rest of us. I was a single mother for years (by choice, her father never forgave me for not marrying him) and was happy with my career and raising my child. There are still too many women out there that think they are no one without a man.

And before I get a bunch of nasty answers, think about it, there are still way too many women out there that think having a baby is a way to trap a man. These women do not want to work and want a man taking care of them so they don't have to. If it is a couples choice for the woman to stay home and she wants to, that's great. But there are still women out there perpetuating the old stereotypes,

I love being at home raising my children. It is what I was meant to do. I personally saw no point in having children and letting a daycare raise them. It's my honor and my privilege to do so. I am fulfilled by my role as a wife and mother. I quench my intellectual desires with adult friendships as well as activities outside of the home. I respect a woman's desire to work outside the home, for me it was easier to work outside the home. I think that everyone has different desires and ideas of fulfillment.
And men DO stay at home sometimes. For us, it made sense for me to because he makes more money. There are SAHD out there and praise them for it.

Probably the way they were raised - what their Dad taught them. Their Mom probably stayed home and never complained and they probably wouldn't know if she wanted something more or not because she was always cheerful.

I've never met a man who wanted to support a woman, but I live in New York so it's less likely here.

Real men don't think that way. I work with men as an equal and participate in their entrepreneurial business ventures.

The men I associate with generally like people and also see women as important, intellectually and sexually with mutual respect.

You obviously haven't met the men I am friends with or my boyfriend. They want to make enough money so them and their wives can choose to stay home with the kids. Their wife's needs come first.

Well, there's more men than women, but some of each are still stuck in that time where that's what they think is the way it should be.

Some women love to "please" their man and stay at home - and infact my husband and I perform general sterotypical gender roles at home ( I do the dishes, cooking, laundry...he mowes the yard, takes out the trash, etc) ---

Some people are totally cool that the woman wants to be independant...just depends on the people. :)

Feminism in a essence creates a divide where they claim to alleviate one. Kinda like calling the kettle black so to speak. Most guys love a smart sexy lady that can handle her own. I find professional women and women who balance their own check book very attractive,...Just let me change the oil in the cars so I feel like you need me!!!!!:)
