I'm going to go in and meet with someone from the hospital for my externship. I'm not one to wear a suit or a dress. This really isn't an "INTERVIEW" so much as "Do we want this person to poke on our patients." I'm doing a Phlebotomy externship. So would a nice pair of slacks be alright? I don't want to be too dressy, but I want to show I am a professional. Should you go light or dark colors? Is it alright to wear like gauchos? I don't dress up very often so I would like something that I will wear a little more often. Thanks for your help

Definitely dress as a professional. The rule is to dress for a higher level than what they are hiring you for. It doesn't matter that you can wear scrubs, jeans, or slacks and a shirt, you dress UP. No gauchos, capris, shorts, camisoles, spaghetti straps, halters, or tube tops.
That said, wear a suit if possible, skirt or pants. If no suit available, wear a nice pair of slacks and a coordinating jacket. Preferably neutral, summer colors [ beige, light gray, navy, olive. ]
Add a blouse, button shirt, or fitted [ women's ] solid [ no screen printed ] Tshirt.
Dress shoes, either heels, or flats.
Add earrings, and a watch - no noisy bangles or charm bracelets.
Subdued makeup.
Very little perfume, but lots of anti-perspirant.
Bring a leather portfolio or notebook to remember questions you want to ask, and to take notes.
