Just curious, is it a good workout, good fun, or both? They're started a club up here at my university and I've joined for fun (they teach as well as compete). Dancers' advice and answers always welcome.

It is a lot of fun for sure. Whether or not it is a good workout is up to you. If you decide to take intence classes and then go to socials and apply what you learned it will be a good workout. If you sit around more than you dance then it's not a workout. If you dance every song but don't put any energy in it then it is not a workout either. But if you do it right, you'll need to bring a towel and an extra shirt.

I second what WWD says - Foxtrot and Rumba only look slow and easy.

If you think you need many hours to get a workout out of it - try jive for 5 minutes straight. If you can do it at all - you'll be sore the next day.

ballroom dancing is among the quality physical activities round for my part. It improves existence, longing, ambition, health...certainly the whole thing! Coupled with the velocity and agility of LAtin American, you might have acquired an all circular game which does not drive you to wait the gymnasium - it tones and businesses the whole thing if frame manner and steps are performed proper. For me the Viennese waltz and the global Foxtrot are the 2 such a lot lovely ballrooms of all time. They are undying - if Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers would dance it so gracefully...then any individual can. Its a ardour and a way of life. You different love love find it irresistible, otherwise you effectively dont... however nine out of 10 instances... you'll be able to find it irresistible.

Both! It's obvious you can get a good workout with the Latin dances, but you'd be surprised how much work there is in the control required for waltz or foxtrot, though that may not strike you at the beginner level. As a matter of fact, most advanced dancers feel foxtrot is the most difficult of all.

I don't know if it's a great workout or fun, but the dancers I've seen do have amazing bodies and they look like they're having fun!

Ginger Rogers obviously got a great workout. She did everything Fred Astaire did, only in high heels and while dancing backwards.

Not too much workout, unless you're at it for hours. But great fun.
