I am not really sure what to do. The guy that worked on my computer says that the power supply can't be fixed (it is too old). The replacement one is better he says. Right now the replacement one is working and not giving me any problems. He has had the other computer for almost two weeks now. I have tried repeatedly to get mine back, but he won't answer the phone, return my calls or anything. I am going to save for a new one, but can't afford one right now. I don't have a model number for mine so I can't check it out to see if he is lying or not about the power supply and if it is too old. Should I just keep this one or get mine back? My boyfriend is planning on going to his house about my computer. He has a bad temper and I am afraid something might happen.
My computer- Dell 888 MHz pentium 3 processor, 256 MB ram, 10G
Replacement-Etower 466 intel celeron processor, 32MB, 128 KB, 4.3 GB
Just wondering-are both the computers old and about the same anyway.

A power supply can be replaced, less than $50, you don't just throw the whole system away because one part is bad. It seems to me he is trying to rip you off, by taking your computer and giving you a lesser one in exchange.
All that said, neither computer is really worth anything, they are both extremely old. I think he stole the comptuer from you to be quite honest, though its probably not worth more than $50, and you wouldn't probably be able to sell it anyway, so going to a lot of trouble to get it back would be out of principle only. No matter what, yes you should start saving up for a new one.

First things to do is... Always be good. Don't be mad at it. By reading and understanding the story it seems that he is a computer technician and he fixed your PC. And to be understanding to his side. "He thinks that the new PC that he replaced is more better than the old Computer or he was lied on you.All you have to do for now is... Ask him to restore the old processor that you had bec. if we say that the problem is only to replaced the dead Power supply actually it doesn't affect the processor. By reading the computer spec that you written down here, your old computer is more better than the new one. Again, ask him to restore your old processor bec. your old processor is more better than the new one.
If you want to know more about the details of your PC then download the free program that can able to read the model of your PC Processor and RAM. Please click this link below.

The replacement is older and slower than yours. Let your boyfriend go get it back. If he does not get it back, you can leave him voice mail saying that you intend to file a lawsuit in small claims court. The idea is not to get a bunch of money from him, just your computer and the court costs.
If the tech has a company, also tell him you will report him to the Better Business Bureau. If neither of those get him to return it, follow through with them.
Then spend $25-$40 for a new power supply. If your computer does what you want it to, then there is no hurry to replace it. But you should not have to be stuck with something that is older and slower than your original.

Weird..maybe something happened to the guy. It looks like he may have been scaming you. Go to the police. Most people don't have much to do with them but for all intense and purpose. Cops are good for stuff like this. Report what happened. If you have any thing like a manual for you unit and model # serial #..report it to the police and have them get it back. This way if it was an attempt to steal it then the person will not only get in jail for stealing it. Your boyfriend wont get an assault charge! :) The answer to your question is don't keep it!!

the guy is not lying about the power supply but he is lying about the specs of the replacement - your mistake was buying a dell in the first place! they use custom parts so replacements are hard to come by.
you could get your old pc rebuilt in a standard case this would allow a standard power supply to be fitted.
Compared to the one that you are currently borrowing, yours is at least twice as good.
My advice is to get yours back and use it for parts and buils another in a standard case.
if i can help further, drop me a line
Good luck

The Dell was the better of the two computers, and I can't think of any recent (Pentium to current) computer where it was "too old" too replace the power supply...

Your's is better. Have him return yours. You can always get a PS from Best Buy or a Computer Repair Shop in your neighborhood and replace it if there's a problem with the PS. He's trying to scam you.
