I breastfed all 3 of my kids, so I never had that middle of the night problem, but... have you tried a pacifier? The ones that my kids liked the best were the NUK pacifiers. They come in different sizes, your son would need a newborn size right now of course. And if you only give it to him in the middle of the night when he's waiting for his bottle to be warmed, you won't have to worry about him walking around with it all the time when he gets older. Good luck :o)

There are no dumb questions when you're a new mom!
The best suggestion I have is to have a bottle with only water out on the counter so the water reaches room temperature by the time your baby is ready to eat. If this is warm enough for the baby, then just add formula and serve! If your baby really prefers it a bit warmer, before adding the formula, put the bottle in the microwave (if you have one) for a few seconds, then test the water to make sure it's not too had before adding the formula. At least the microwave is quicker than the stove and I don't know of any problems the microwave would cause.
Other suggestions, try to get up and make the bottle before the baby is really awake, just when you hear him starting to wiggle and you know he's going to want to eat. That way he won't be desperate while you are trying to make the bottle. Or, if you use a pacifier, you can try that while he's waiting.
Good luck!

It's OK to warm a bottle in the microwave. I do it all the time for my daughter. It's a lot faster than having to wait for it to warm up under running warm water or letting it sit in warm water. Depending on how much formula you give your son will depend on how long you heat it up. I would say 5 - 10 seconds for every ounce. My daughter drinks 6 ounces and I warm it up for 50 seconds. I make my daughters formula in bulk and keep in it in the refrigerator. That's why I heat it up for so long because it's cold. If it's to hot I drop a ice cube in and wait for it to dissolve by shaking it and it's perfect. Bottle is ready in 2 minutes. Or like other people are saying, keep some water out at room temperature. I use nursery water and keep it out on the counter. Get some nursery water or fill a container up with water and leave it out for those late night emergency feedings. I hope I've been helpful!

Hello,
First, let me say that I am sorry there have been some negative answers to your question. We all know that the choice to breastfeed or not is just that....a choice. You have chosen NOT to and now need some help with what I think must be a very frustrating situation!!! Sometimes, we just all need to be moms!!!
Anyway, I am a breastfeeding mom, but here are a few things that my cousin did with her babies. Try room temperature water and powder.
If this does not work, you can get an insulated thermous. Heat the water before you go to bed and pour it in the thermous. You can keep bottles, powder and the water right next to your bed!
The last thing she did was to purchase a bottle warmer. You can get them at most stores like WalMart...I think she got hers at Target.
Good luck with the night time!!

What I personally do is put the amount of water ex. 4 oz in a coffee cup and warm it up in the microwave 15-20 sec. Just poor that into the bottle over the formula. If your concerned about "hot spots" in the water, when you shake the bottle it should even out water temp.

My mum told me when she had me (i was the only child that wouldn't BR/F) she put boiling water from the kettle into a thermos and put it next to her bed. When I woke up in the middle of the night it was at the right temp and she would just add the formula and hey presto! quick, easy and water is still purified because it is boiled first. A baby should never be drinking water straight from the tap till 6mths old. It should always be boiled first. and cooled, boiled water for drinking out of a sippy cup.
Your other option is a microwave, which contrary to popular belief is totally safe. Just pre-make the bottle and put it in the fridge before you go to bed (they are good for 24hrs) Heat with teat off in microwave for 30secs or so depending on microwave, give it a good shake and you're on your way.
good luck and congrats

Have you considered buying a bottle warmer? It heats the bottle with hot steam. I have one that has a compartment that keeps pre-prepared bottles cold. Then when you are ready to use them you just take them out of the cold compartment and put them in the warmer. Safer for consistent heating that a microwave (they say that things continue to heat after being removed from the microwave) ...faster and easier than the stove top.

My son also likes his a little warm so in the middle of the night I put him in his vibrating chair and gave him his pacifier and that would work for a couple of minutes while I warmed it up.

I had a friend who took hot water to bed in a Thermos.
She said it was great for the middle of the night with a bottle that had already had the powder measured in.
Personally, I breastfeed.
