Harvard recently started charging $0 tuition for students of families of incomes less than $40,000 a year. why would anyone want to go to Harvard when 1. they would not fit in. 2. they would be labeled as an elitist (and this would not help in their future job prospects. aren't there other schools such as OU, UNM, NMSU UT etc that have full scholarships, and don't ya all think i'd be happier at one of those?

If you EARNED your acceptance to Harvard, intelligent people will not thing you're an 'elitist.' Jealous people might try and label you as such, but that's something you'll just have to get over.

Harvard is a great school, and you'll get a great education - employers worth working for will not look down on you for having attended Harvard. They will respect the fact that you worked hard and attended a fine school.

Harvard is the second best university in the country (right under Princeton). Students that graduate from there are assured of a high paying job. Who cares if someone calls you an elitist? And most of the other students are not going to care if your family makes less than 40k a year. The fact that you got into Harvard from a less than affluent family just makes what you have accomplished more impressive.

What's an elitist? Someone who went to a good school? Harvard will help you get a job even if you don't deserve it. Pick a school based on whether you like the size, the city, the weather, the academics, whether they offer the major you think you're interested in, you like the party life, etc. Don't pick it out of fear of being called an "elitist." Most of us would be so lucky to get to be called an elitist.

If you have the chance to go to Harvard -- for free, no less -- GO!

Why on earth would you think that going to an Ivy would hurt your job prospects? That's crazy.

And there's no reason to think you wouldn't fit in. I can't speak for Harvard but I went to a pretty swank college and fit in just fine. Even the fanciest college and universities are pretty diverse places.

Well I did not like being away from my family when I went away from school. Harvard is a VERY good school. It depends on the field of study you into if the others are better. Did you get in? My dad went to Johns Hopkins. He thought it was cool.

In what universe do employers say "we don't want you because you went to a good school"?

edit: in response to your Additional Details
If you walk around saying, or suggesting, you're better than everyone because you have a degree from Harvard, then people will (correctly) think that. Otherwise no.

With your spelling and grammar, you wouldn't get into Harvard if you tried. So what's your problem? I'm sure a nearby community college has very nice financial aid offices.

It sounds like you're a spoilt snob! You should be just happy to get the opportunity to go to any university.
