Here's what you do... be a little less available to him. Look at some school courses and maybe go back to school. Check out a community college. If you can't do that, look at online courses. Or go to the library and start checking out books and reading them. Be a little mysterious. Start doing things without him, like you don't need him, even if it's going to the park with just the baby. Make some friends that he doesn't know. Maybe go to church with the baby, especially if he doesn't. Talk about people he hasn't met, new people. Because he lives with you, he knows everything about you. He knows you want to get married. Instead of pushing for marriage, start separating a little from him emotionally, like you can do without him. That will make him nervous. Read "The Rules" and see how much you can apply to your situation.

Why buy the cow when the milks for free. You gave it up and that basically says "I do not have to have a ring on my finger to put out for anyone". The right thing to do with a baby is get married though. I'd tell him we are getting married at the courthouse or whatever or I'm moving on. You have a right to expect moral behavior as far as your daughter is concerned and how you guys are living now is just teaching her that..."when you get the milk for free...why buy the cow?"

Check the state laws. Some states will consider you married if you live with someone for so long and have a child together. I believe it is called a common law marriage.

Sorry, but it's simply because you gave it all up by shacking up with him, and he has no need or want to get married. Plus, if he didn't ask you before -- or the moment after you told him you were pregnant, then he's not a man of good character. Now that you're a mom, you need to make MUCH better choices and fewer mistakes.

Honey, have you ever heard of the phrase "Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free." Thats why he won't marry you. Don't ever think because you have a child with a man that he is obligated to marry you. I know a lot of women who get hurt because of this type of mentality.

Why SHOULD he marry you? You already live together you have a child...Have you never heard the saying "Don't buy the cow when you're getting the milk for free"? He doesn't HAVE to marry you, you've handed it all to him already.

He gets free sex and family life while giving nothing back in return. Think of it from his perspective - why should he marry you? You have made it too easy for him to have everything he wants WITHOUT having to marry you.

I have to agree with the first two answers. You have been very, very foolish. You have NO leverage. It's going to be even harder for you to go find a good man now, too.

Because he doesn't have to. You gave him the kid, you probably live with him, and probably do everything a wife does. You didn't save anything for marriage.
