what is so difficult about not hitting soldiers that are on your side? are they jut gunning for a kill - getting blood lust which blinds them [making them worse animals than saddam]
or are they so cr*p at their job that they cannot tell the difference between british soldiers and a bunch of teatowel wearing ragheads?

its bad enough our guys are out there at all [thanks to ars*e kissing Tony Blair] but to be shot up by a bunch of "trigger happy nearly rights" is taking it one step too far!

The entire American Military top of the league in this dilemma. And a situation that has to be properly investigated and resolved / there's no ending to it! Too quick on the draw and too far away when they open fire - whereas there's time enough to investigate, challenge or whatever, they quickly line up, fire, hightail it to safety.

Synonymous practise with all the US military services, albeit their Army, Airforce, Navy. Never for one moment when debriefing, (knowing what they've occasioned) do they say 1 word. All their High Commands rushing in / cover it up. No court marshals, no investigations, non of the findings (always biased to protect their forces) made public or turned over to their Allies who suffered the loss.

Their high command or those responsible never attending any account proceedings whenever convened.

I can go back to the Vietnam war, my first experience serving with the US military. And every conflict I served in up until I was wounded / invalided out of the services, where the US military were also involved - it continually happened

I truly respect your outrage at what our pilots did to your guys and no apology or excuse can justify what happened.

There is a list of factors that lead up to a tragic incident like this. Very, very tired troops, pilots who have been deployed for excessive times, part time pilots in a full time combat situation, crappy intel etc. Again none of which justify or excuse.

But the true blames lies with our Mr. Bush and his coven of morons. Our military is well trained and well equipped but they are led by politicians in and out of uniform, not generals and admirals.

From the information I've gathered these pilots had reported the combatant contact and sought intel input and command authorization for engagement or continuation of patrol.

Because even the most minor military action is determined only after an unbelievable political process based on political ramifications and not military strategy, the engagement decision was never made or at least not conveyed to the pilots.

At some point the pilots made the decision that engagement was required (based on faulty intel) immediately and they engaged.

Please don't paint all U.S. military with the same brush of incompetence. Our military is trying to do an impossible mission thrust upon them by people interested in financial and political benefit (including your Mr. Blair) and not human life or justice.

Many, many of us wish we weren't saddled with the leadership that we are. In the entire USA you can count the number of honest politicians on one hand. If you have a suggestion on how to rid oneself of crooks and thieves in government, I for one am listening.

My deepest sympathy to those men's families and to your nation as a whole. It is a shame your country got caught up in the same meat grinder as my country's people. Both led by dishonest, selfish people.

Listen pal, have you ever been in a fire fight and have jets screaming down on you, trying to get close enough to give you support and save your butt? I think not. Coming in at something like 150 miles an hour and trying to get the co ordinance you have given them, they count on you to know where you are.

Unless you've been there, be quiet, I have been. Those "trigger happy ......" have saved more butt? instead of carping, what have you done for your country except to carp?

I think it is more to do with lack of proper training than incompetence on the party of the pilots. They were doing their best in a difficult situation.
