I'm calling b.s. on that one. I'm thinking that the new girl was simply able to negotiate a higher salary.

This kind of thing goes on a lot more often that you might think.

I used to work at a hotel. I was an excellent employee. 3 years into my job, a lady was hired, for the exact same position that I had, at the exact same property. And guess what? Her starting pay was $1.25 more per hour than my current pay at the time. That infuriated me. Luckily I was blessed with a sweet job offer a few months later, and QUIT!

Heather - the mere fact you found out about how much she was making and then went on to ask why - shows true unprofessionalism on your part and could be why you have not been up for raises prior to bring you to that dollar more, if you handle other situation with such little tact.

Also, there is a good possiblility that she was able to negotiate her salary based on what she made previously and her prior experience.

Her salary is completely fair.

Five people who were hired a year after me at my old job were offered $10,000 more per year to start. I also had more experience than they did. I quit and I am making more than twice my old salary.

Life isn't fair. Look for a new job if you wish.

She is doing something right? Maybe you should follow her for a day and then try to emulate it.
