It depends of various factors. Are you old enough and mature enough to handle things being discussed in the chat room? Are you giving out too much personal information to the people you chat with? Do you ALWAYS remember that there are too many predators out there hiding behind keyboards? Do you remember not to believe 99% of anything almost anyone tells you on line?

A chat room is a way to learn, talk and socialize, but there is a flip side. The fact that it is easy to be anonymous has lead to abuse of the system. Children and teens love chat rooms, and reports of the dangers of chat rooms are widespread. There are many irresponsible adults who use chat rooms anonymously for their own entertainment. Parents need to be aware of who their children are talking to within chat rooms.
There have also been reports that chat rooms lead to social interaction problems. Long hours spent alone using chat rooms have been thought to lead to poor social skills. By relying on chat rooms as one's only form of communication with others, social skills can deteriorate. If the chat room is used responsibly, however, it can be a fun and useful tool. It is when the virtual world is used as a substitute for the real world that problems may occur.

Chat rooms are not dangerous. It's some of the people who go on them that are dangerous. If people would learn not to give out personal info, like real names, real addresses, and phone numbers or even real email address, they would be safer. And if some people didn't come in to them just to cause trouble they would be more fun to talk on. I like being able to talk to people in other states and countries. And just having a little bit of fun. But you can't go on them any more without somebody Trying to cause trouble.

They can be dangerous simply because there are so many dangerous people in society anymore. In chat rooms you have to be very careful and think through any and every thing before sharing it regardless of how "safe" you may think someone is.

Personally, I would never go to a chat room. You have no idea what
kind of person is on there. Predators and freaks are in abundance.
If you do, NO PERSONAL INFO, NO MEETING ANYONE. Life is too
precious to get involved that way.

Yeah in a way but I try to stay out of them I am new at this computer thing.I went in one and I guess I was a sitting duck some guy wanted to share a picture with me and it was a photo of a HUGE hoo haa!!!!LOL

They can be dangerous for the naive.
They could be fun for the kidder
They could be addictive to the lonely

Predators CAN hang out in them......that is why......READ John Douglas's book about the internet...he invented Profiling.
it will, the book, explain a LOT ~ Getit from the Library if need be.

i think there dangerous for people who are gullible or lonely
and especially dangerous for children with all of the predators on line
