You need to look for a reputable acting school in your area. Do not try to get an agent on your own!! The entertainment industry is rife with ripoffs, so you need some professional help. My son is a student at John Robert Powers International. You might check out their website for a local school. You have to audition to get in, they don't just take everyone who walks through the door. You also need to google theatre auditions in your area. Audition for just about everything. You may or may not get parts, but the auditions get your name out and give you some experience. You will need to produce a resume and have a headshot (be careful here, even the photographers will rip you off if they get the chance.) Make sure you also work on voice lessons and basic dance - tap, jazz, ballet and hip hop. All of the above are necessary to make it in today's teen television. Good luck!!

Not to sound negative, but that's rather hard to do unless you've been acting since they were 3 or 4.
But if you really wants some tips. Method acting really helps. I use it a lot. What it is is taking an scene and using an experience you had once and taking that emotion and using it for the scene you're in. I.e. if you're supposed to be really angry in a scene, think of something that made you upset when you were younger and take that emotion and apply it to the scene. It's hard to do for some people.
If you can't do that, base the character you're doing on someone else. Or take characteristics and mix them together.
Also, take classes, that'll help hone in skills that you need work on. Also, go to clubs (improv club, acting club), try out for school plays. Anything that can get you experience is good, especially if you have to submit a resume to Disney, they like to see what you've been doing.
Uh, yea. I'm sure there's a lot more things, but that's the basics of it.

You shouldn't be acting and singing just to be famous. You should do it because you love to do it. Everyone has their reasons for loving it, but it definitely shouldn't be just for fame and money. I mean, fame and money are a plus, but that shouldn't be the main reason. So, find something you love doing(like a sport or something) but don't do acting since you're mostly doing it for the fame. Trust me, being famous is not that great after a while. At first it's great, but you will get tired of everyone thinking they know you and randomly coming up to you to get your autograph. They also don't let you have ANY privacy! People want to be friends with you only because you are famous. They won't leave you alone. You never know who are your real friends and who aren't. Also, the jealousy. That is THE WORST! People that don't even know you are mean to you just because they don't like the style of music you sing or they are jealous. Trust me about all of this. Honestly... Trust me.

to make it in TV you need to be able to act, sing and dance. You should be able to dance many styles and have been doing it for years. You should be able to sight read music. You have to get a headshot and write a resume. If you don't have enough experience to fill up a resume, then you might as well give up. The kids on disney now have been doing this their whole lives, with rich parents pushing them all the way. You can't just walk into this business, I doubt you stand a chance.

I just want to say one thing. ragann63 is all wet. Saying "Don't get ripped off by scam acting places" and then saying "My son is with John Robert Powers" is like saying "Don't let anyone steal your money" then saying "Jesse James is holding my wallet." JRP are the huge scammers. She got robbed. Don't let it happen to you.
