Gift cards are commonly given in the USA as a gift. If you know of some place they like to shop, you can usually buy an on-line gift certifficate for them same as a gift card but no plastic or postage.

You can usually send a nice e-card to go with it.

Barnesand noble carruies music, movies and books. Every one can find something they want from barnes and noble, or target. Both are acceptable gift cards for some one in the usa. Otherwise best buy or a clothing store.
